There are many to choose from and none of them are particularly “favoured” by any of the associations. Obviously, they work closely with vets visiting the shelters and associations with block bookings for injections and general health checks. Minor operations, etc. Availability is key to all requests. Some do make ‘home-calls’ their speciality. Supervet at Alvor is one.


There is the ‘Veterinario’ hospital in Portimão and one in Silves. Clinics in Lagos, Albufeira. Some have an emergency call out. But, most vets would prefer in an emergency to have the animal at their surgery, team if necessary on hand. Transportability is sometimes, the fundamental requirement for the owner. Or, the condition of the animal in question. Don’t forget pets need their vaccinations and flea and tick treatments to keep them as healthy as possible.
