Cyclists can lose points on their license

Cyclists who commit serious, or very serious offenses on the road may lose points on their driving license.

According to Jornal de Notícias, the loss of points occurs if they are sentenced to an additional driving sanction and have a driving license.

If they are not qualified to drive, the bicycle is confiscated.

According to the newspaper, which cites data from the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), in the last seven years points have been deducted from 96 people, with 2020 being the year with the most offenders (35).

Does this mean there is one punsihment for some (without licenses) and a different stronger punishment for others, who happen to have a driving license?

Traffic offenses by cyclists are far less important to public safety than those committed by motorized vehicle drivers. That's because the consequences of a mistake literally impact a cyclist far more than they do a driver in a steel box.

A cyclist rolling through a stop sign is not something to worry about. The cyclist takes that risk into their own hands, and if they can't risk their own safety then they are not free. Let people be free to risk their own health and safety.

Brian. But what about the trauma caused to the other parties if a cyclist is injured or killed? Cyclists are a menace, particularly pack riders and couriers, who seem to think the rules simply don’t apply to them. Register and tax cycling.
