According to Notícias ao Minuto, Mercadona "will continue its expansion project in Portugal and is hiring for new stores that will open in 2024".

“The company already has more than 5,000 Portuguese employees and intends to continue strengthening its team throughout this year, with the opening of new stores and the Logistics Block in Almeirim".

The available vacancies, explains the group, "are mainly for supermarket operators, maintenance assistants and warehouse operators (logistics block) with an effective contract from the first day, with an annual starting salary of €13,791.61 gross and the possibility of progression to €18,861.84 (including holiday and Christmas allowances)".

The Spanish brand opened its first supermarket in Portugal on July 2, 2019, in Canidelo, Vila Nova de Gaia. It ended 2023 with 49 stores in the districts of Porto, Braga, Aveiro, Viana do Castelo, Setúbal, Santarém, Viseu, Leiria, Lisbon and Coimbra.

The company also has an operational Logistics Block in Póvoa de Varzim and will open the second, in Almeirim, later this year.
