The councillor responsible for transport at the Coimbra City Council, Ana Bastos, stated that IP confirmed the technical feasibility of adjustments proposed by the municipality to the high-speed route, thus allowing the total expropriation of Quinta das Cunhas, a small town in the municipality, within the scope of high speed.

The confirmation of this technical feasibility now provides the Coimbra City Council “with technical elements to be able to request the rectification of the route from the future concessionaire”, explained the councillor.

“With this adjustment to the layout, it is possible to save all of the buildings in Quinta das Cunhas, thus saving the memories and identity of the place, while ensuring improvements, with a reduction in the number of demolitions in the municipality of Condeixa-a-Nova”, highlighted Ana Bastos.

According to the councillor, the adjustment also makes it possible to avoid the demolition of three other homes in Reveles, “one of which has just been built”.

Although this process is not yet closed – it depends on the will of the future concessionaire –, the councillor told Lusa agency that she is “very confident” that the proposed adjustments, with assured technical feasibility, can be followed in the project.

The mayor of Coimbra, José Manuel Silva, welcomed the possibility of saving Quinta das Cunhas, stressing that the municipality will do everything “in defense of its residents”.
