“In the event of qualification of the mixed relay through the Olympic ranking, the athletes who secured a place on the podium of a WTCS automatically ensured their spot in Paris”, disclosed the organisation.

The athletes Vasco Vilaça, Ricardo Batista, Melanie Santos and Maria Tomé achieved the silver medal in the World Cup event in Napier, New Zealand, therefore securing a place in the individual qualifiers at Paris2024, scheduled for July 30 (men) and July 31 (women), and in the mixed relay, on August 5.

The World Triathlon finalised the qualification process following the cancellation of the Abu Dhabi race, due to bad weather, with Portugal's qualification due to ninth place in world rankings, a position which was cemented with the accomplishments in Napier.

With places reserved for the six best-scoring relays in the ranking, with the exception of France, Germany and Great Britain, which already qualified, Portugal took sixth place, behind New Zealand, Switzerland, Australia, the United States and Italy.

The sport will have four Portuguese representatives at the Paris2024 Olympic Games, which will take place between July 26 and August 11, and marks the first time Portugal will have two women athletes in the individual qualifiers.
