In a statement, Porto City Council said that in the celebrations of "the day that changed the country", Avenida dos Aliados and Praça do General Humberto Delgado will "become the central sites".
On the night of April 24th, a 'video mapping' show alluding to the date marks, from 10pm onwards, the start of the celebrations. The show is the result of a collaboration with the Commemorative Commission for the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, RTP, photographer Alfredo Cunha, musician Rodrigo Leão, and visual artist Vhils.
Fifteen minutes later, Avenida dos Aliados hosts the concert "Aliados à Liberdade", which will feature Canto Nono, Vozes da Rádio, and the Coral de Letras from the University of Porto.
The "great themes of freedom" that marked the revolution will be sung in the concert that ends with the singing of Grândola Vila Morena and the fireworks show at midnight, "colouring the city's skies with the most diverse colours of freedom".
On the April 25th holiday, the program has proposals "for all ages". From 10:00 onwards, activities are planned for the whole family at Praça do General Humberto Delgado.
Another of the program's "great moments" takes place from 2:30 pm on the 25th, with a tribute to anti-fascist resisters in Largo Soares dos Reis, next to the former PIDE headquarters. The tribute is followed by the freedom parade.
The parade will start from Largo Soares dos Reis and will pass through Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, Rua D. João IV, Rua de Santo Ildefonso, Rua de Passos Manuel, Rua de Sá da Bandeira, Praça D. João I, Rua de Rodrigues Sampaio, and ends at Avenida dos Aliados.
Avenida dos Aliados will once again host several commemorative moments during the afternoon, with the concert "Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Freedom Day" being scheduled from 3pm onwards, with the musical direction of André Castro and the participation of Marco Quaresma, Pedro Matos, Sofia Beco, Beatriz Cerqueira, Tiago Pacheco, Fernando Maia and Leonardo Carvalho.
It will be precisely on Avenida dos Aliados that the various commemorative and evocative moments of that afternoon begin.
At 4:00 pm the Commission for the Popular Celebrations of the 25th of April is expected to intervene and at 4:15 pm a concert with the Cara de Espelho project, a group that results from the meeting of Portuguese musicians, such as Deolinda, Ornatos Violeta, Gaiteiros of Lisbon, A Naifa, Humans.
The celebrations taking place in Porto are the result of coordination between the municipal company Ágora and the Commission for Popular Celebrations of the 25th of April.
