At the headquarters of the Centro Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRC), in Coimbra, the term of acceptance of Turismo do Centro's candidacy for tourism promotion and sustainability in the region, between 2023 and 2025, was signed on 2 May.

According to the president of Turismo Centro, Raul Almeida, present at the ceremony, this initiative will involve a first phase of investment of three million euros, with a second phase of equal value.

The official highlighted that meetings were held with the various agents in the territory to design this initiative, aligned with European strategies, and seek to increase the number of overnight stays and the average stay in the region.

To this end, the investment will be channeled into brand and destination campaigns, various promotional and communication actions, as well as the development and promotion of specific supra-municipal tourist products, such as the cheese or wine sector or religious tourism, explained Raul Almeida.

“We must continue to do the work of attracting and increasing the number of overnight stays and average stays. We want more people to come and stay longer”, he stressed.

Also present at the session, the president of the CCDRC, Isabel Damasceno, defended integrated work, considering that tourism has “potential” to develop further in the region.

“This articulation has led us to realise that support in the area of tourism has borne fruit and has had consequences and results”, she highlighted.
