Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni will be the only leader of a European Union (EU) country to travel to Washington to attend the inauguration of new US President Donald Trump.
None of the senior representatives of the EU institutions are reported to have received an invitation to the ceremony, including the presidents of the European Council, António Costa, the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
Representation at the ambassadorial level is expected, according to DN. EU Ambassador to the United States Jovita Neliupsien will be in attendance.
André Ventura, leader of Chega, received an invitation from Patriotas pela Europa, the right-wing populist group in the European Parliament, and members of the Republican Party, and will be present.
Also confirmed to attend are former important figures in the White House, starting with outgoing President Joe Biden and his vice president Kamala Harris, the candidate defeated by Trump in last November's elections.
Another former president, Barack Obama, will also be in attendance, but will not be accompanied by his wife and former first lady, Michelle Obama.
A number of high-profile business people will also be present, namely the owners of Tesla (Elon Musk), Amazon (Jeff Bezos) and Meta (Mark Zuckerberg), companies that made large donations to Trump's campaign.
Europe has another enemy! Now they are all alone. Russia, China and the US will determine world politics.
