History talks

My next presentation will feature a talk which I last gave more than five years ago. It will cover my view of Famous Portuguese. It is difficult for foreigners always to consider famous individuals of other countries in their proper light, and without this basic knowledge, how can the immigrant properly appreciate the culture of that country, and its view of its own past?

This talk will take place on Friday 2 May at 11:00 in Tavira Library. Our talks are free, and there is opportunity to make a contribution to the running of the Association. I shall be organising a lunch after the talk in Tavira - if you wish to lunch with Lynne and me at our usual restaurant, please be in touch.

Guided Historical Walks in Tavira

After having to refuse some interested applicants in April, I am again making guided walks around historic Tavira. In my design, there are three walks: first around the Old Town, the Vila-a-Dentro; second around the growing Medieval Town; and third around the Northern suburb, Além da Ponte, on the other side of the river. Each of them lasts about 90 minutes; and each of them requires an ability to walk for that length of time, with no pauses for resting in cafés. There is a small charge (€5) for each participant.

The dates I have in mind for these excursions are as follows, all at 11:00:

Walk 1 Wednesday 7 May / Tuesday 13 May

Walk 2 Thursday 8 May / Wednesday 21 May

Walk 3 Wednesday 14 May / Thursday 22 May

Please let me know by email if you wish to attend, and I shall let you know the assembly point.

Concert at Quintinha da Música

The next concert in our 2024/2025 series will take place on Sunday, 25 May at 17:00. Its title is A Place of Our Own given by Duo Tágide. Our performers will be Inês Simões (soprano) and Daniel Godinho (piano). Their publicity speaks of a range of performance pieces including pearls from the baroque right up to contemporary compositions. Composers range from Schubert and Wagner, Sibelius and Mahler up to Messiaen and Berio, and other contemporaries such as Basto and Crumb. Reservations cost €30 and should be made through me peterbooker1347@gmail.com
