Bragança and Vila Real will be under a yellow warning between 9 am today and midnight on Tuesday, then changing to an orange warning until 6 pm on Wednesday.

Continental Portugal will record high temperatures from today onwards, with maximums between 33 and 40º Celsius and with the highest values in the Tagus Valley region, in Beira Baixa and in the South.

According to the IPMA, until Wednesday, mainland Portugal is expected to be under the "joint influence of an anticyclone south of the British Isles and a depression trough that extends from North Africa to the Iberian Peninsula".

The weather situation will increase the maximum temperature values, especially from today onwards, and an episode of suspended dust originating in North Africa.

Maximum temperatures will range from approximately 33 to 40 °C in most of the country, although slightly lower in some areas of the coastal strip.

The highest maximum temperatures are expected to occur in the Tagus Valley, Beira Baixa and Southern regions.

The IPMA predicts that minimum temperatures will rise today and Tuesday, considering "probable tropical nights in much of the mainland".

The hot weather may continue until Thursday, especially in inland areas.

Given the forecast of high temperatures, the State Health Department recommends that the population regularly drink water, wear loose, cool clothing and use sunscreen every two hours.
