Lusa sought figures on the number of families awaiting municipal housing from the Lisbon Metropolitan Area entity, but the entity indicated that it did not have aggregated data.

When asked about the 18 municipalities in the AML, only two did not respond: Seixal and Vila Franca de Xira.

Counting the requests registered in the 16 municipalities that responded, as of July, there were at least 31,035 families awaiting municipal housing. Some municipalities provided precise numbers, while others only provided more general estimates.

Lisbon leads the way, with approximately 15,700 families waiting (8,700 in the Supported Rental Program and approximately 7,000 in the Affordable Rent Program).

Followed by Sintra with approximately 4,000 families, Setúbal with 1,963, Oeiras with 1,467, Cascais with 1,371, Odivelas with 1,220, Amadora with approximately 1,200, and Loures with approximately 1,000.

The others all have fewer than a thousand applications: Barreiro (812), Alcochete (462), Sesimbra (430), Moita (428), Mafra (425), Almada (280), Montijo (176), and Palmela (101).

Some city councils have indicated the number of people referred to by the households on the waiting list. For example, in Sintra, the four thousand housing applications correspond to about ten thousand people, while in Setúbal the number drops by half.

The Barreiro City Council provided further details, reporting that the 812 active applications correspond to 3,248 people, with an average per capita income of around 325 euros.
