According to the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Beiras and Serra da Estrela, 221 vehicles were also mobilised to the scene in the Guarda district at around 8:30 am today.

The fire, which broke out on Saturday, is divided into four fronts, two of which are already under control and are still underway, while two others are causing concern.

One of the active fronts is about a thousand meters long, and the other is 3.5 kilometres long, but "these fires are burning mainly in brushy areas, with no casualties and far from residential areas," a Civil Protection source told Lusa, admitting that some roads in the area may need to be closed today.

The command added that weather conditions will remain similar to recent days, with relatively low humidity, high temperatures, and light to moderate winds.

Portugal is on alert due to the worsening weather forecast. Access, movement, and stay within forest areas are prohibited, according to the Municipal Forest Fire Defense Plans. Burning and burning are also prohibited, and permits issued for that period are also suspended.

The alert status also prohibits work in forest and rural areas using machinery and the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices. In this case, any authorizations already issued will also be suspended.

The Trancoso City Council has decided to maintain the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan in effect "due to the emergency situation caused by the fire affecting the municipality," following the meeting of the Municipal Civil Protection Commission.

The municipality has already suspended irrigation in public spaces and urged the population to reduce water consumption "to what is strictly necessary" and, by doing so, help "safeguard this essential resource for fighting the fire."

The fire in the municipality has already consumed 8,000 hectares, primarily chestnut groves, olive groves, and vineyards, the mayor, Amílcar Salvador, announced on Monday.
