These results reveal the continued growth in demand for CP's services and confirm the "attractiveness of the train as a safe, sustainable, and affordable transportation solution," the company said in a statement.

The increase was across most services, with the most significant increase recorded in the Regional service, where 15.3 million more passengers travelled by train (133% more than in the same period last year). The urban trains in Coimbra registered an increase of 84% and the Intercidades trains a 48%. In terms of passenger numbers, Lisbon's urban trains continue to have the highest numbers, reaching approximately 68 million passengers in the first half of the year. The Alfa Pendular remains firmly in the market.

Among the measures adopted to encourage public transportation use, the Green Rail Pass, implemented in October 2024, has had a significant impact on the modal shift to rail, promoting affordable and sustainable mobility for €20 per month.

Between January and June 2025, more than 315,000 Green Rail Pass subscriptions were sold. This travel voucher represents a clear commitment to strengthening the promotion of rail transportation throughout the country. Since its implementation, more than 390,000 Green Rail Passes have been sold, with growing demand demonstrating the impact this pass has had on the mobility of the Portuguese population.

Furthermore, more than 1.25 million reservations have already been made for intercity train trips using the Green Rail Pass.
