According to Luís Montenegro, Donald Trump expressed solidarity with Portugal following the accident involving the Glória elevator in Lisbon, which left 16 dead and many others injured.

"I spoke by phone with President Donald Trump regarding our alliance and bilateral relations. We both see many opportunities to strengthen economic, political, and cultural ties between the US and Portugal," the Portuguese prime minister wrote in a post on social network X, from Japan, where he begins a two-day official visit on Thursday.

"I was deeply moved by the solidarity that President Trump expressed to me regarding the Glória elevator tragedy," the Portuguese prime minister added.
