In a statement, the body responsible for coordinating and managing mobility in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area explained that despite the communication campaign in effect since July, "thousands of young people still have not updated their free pass, which raises concerns as the return to school approaches."
TML reports that updating can, in most cases, be done "quickly, simply, and without having to travel through the 'navigator' app," where users can check the discount validity, renew their free pass, and ensure continued access to free travel.
According to the agency, since many passes expire at the end of August and September, it's important that young people don't delay updating their passes until the end of the month, avoiding lines and waiting at Customer Service Centres and minimising in-person service.
More information and tutorials on how to update your Youth Free Pass are available on the website (www.navegante.pt) and on the Navegante Instagram account.
Navegante passes were created in 2019 and now offer free passes for young people up to and including 23 years old, even if they are no longer students.
The price for the Navegante Metropolitano (valid throughout the Lisbon Metropolitan Region) is 40 euros per month, the Navegante Metropolitano (valid in one municipality) costs 30 euros, and the Navegante +65, for seniors, costs 20 euros.
The AML is made up of 18 municipalities on the north and south banks of the River Tagus, namely Alcochete, Almada, Amadora, Barreiro, Cascais, Lisbon, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Montijo, Odivelas, Oeiras, Palmela, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira.
