During the first phase, in 2026, 82 cameras will be installed, with an estimated investment of €1.7 million.
According to the city, this first phase represents the largest investment, both in terms of the number of cameras to be installed and the infrastructure needs, including servers, a control room, and analysis software.
In 2027, 33 more cameras will be installed in areas with pipelines, and the final 18 will be installed in 2028.
The municipality will provide financing, acquisition, installation, and maintenance of the system, while the PSP will ensure operation and monitoring at its Command and Control Centre.
"This proposal represents an unequivocal commitment by the municipality of Braga to safety, innovation, and quality of life, placing the interests of citizens at the centre of municipal action," reads the proposal.
The system will be subject to a mandatory prior opinion from the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD), to be presented by the Ministry of Internal Administration, as data controller.
The objectives include strengthening the protection of people and property, preventing and reducing crime in high-risk areas, supporting police action by enabling a faster and more effective response, and contributing to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage and the protection of recreational spaces.
