Organised by the Municipality of Abrantes and Tagus – Association for the Integrated Development of Ribatejo Interior, the fair brings together some of Portugal’s most cherished regional delicacies. Visitors can expect a tasting journey from north to south, featuring delights such as fidalgo and Alentejo’s sericaia, the famous ovos moles of Aveiro, pão-de-ló of Ovar, queijadas de São Gonçalo, almond cartuchinhos from Cernache do Bonjardim, and the Azorean bolos lêvedos. Abrantes itself will be represented by its signature sweets: Palha de Abrantes, Tigeladas and Broas Fervidas.

Alongside the food, the programme includes confectionery workshops for families, run by local schools, as well as a special stand dedicated to the EN2. The fair will also feature visits to schools by the mascot “Palhinhas,” a cycling tour along part of the EN2, and a lively musical line-up. João Vaz will perform From Roots to Fado on Friday (24 October), while the Alentejo band Vizinhos will take to the stage on Saturday (25 October).

The event also offers wellbeing activities such as open Biodanza classes, yoga sessions, and entertainment for children, including the play A Carochinha.

With free entry, the National Confectionery Fair positions itself as a meeting point for families and friends, combining tradition, gastronomy, and popular culture in the heart of Abrantes. More details and workshop registrations can be found at cm-abrantes.pt and tagus-ri.pt.
