Poland has introduced a nationwide deposit return system aimed at cutting household waste and increasing recycling.

This scheme builds on a previously limited programme and now covers 3L plastic bottles and metal cans up to 1L, with reusable glass bottles up to 1.5 litres set to be included from January 2026.
The deposits will range from zł0.50 for plastic bottles and cans to zł1 for reusable glass bottles.
