This is what data from the Bank of Portugal (BdP) shows: 56% of the more than 125,000 contracts signed and 57% of the 17.9 billion euros these loans total were granted through credit intermediaries.
According to the Jornal de Negócios newspaper, which relies on the 2024 credit market monitoring report published by the BdP, last year there were 70,000 mortgage loans involving intermediaries, with an average global value of over 10 billion euros.
The most recent data from the banking supervisor, now led by Álvaro Santos Pereira, also allows us to conclude, for example, that there are currently more than 6,100 registered credit intermediaries. This is an increase from the 5,893 reported at the end of 2024.
