We are part of the Church of England, within the Archdeaconry of Gibraltar, which in turn is part of the Diocese in Europe. Our church lies in the heart of the beautiful city of Porto. Our church actively welcomes local people from Portugal, people who are relocating to Portugal or have already settled here, short-term visitors, students from all over the world, and many more.

We are on the Portuguese Caminho de Santiago and are frequently visited by pilgrims. We offer the blessing of pilgrims at the end of each Sunday. We can also stamp pilgrim credentials. Blessings and stamping of credentials are available on weekdays by prior arrangement.

Our Children’s Church meets every Sunday starting at 10.45 am in the Well House, which adjoins the church. The children learn Bible stories and conduct activities topical to the sermon, and rejoin the service at 11.30 am. All are welcome. We have a Playgroup led by a group of enthusiastic parents who are independent of the church community, who have worked to create a safe, fun, and supportive space for children up to the age of six. They meet every Wednesday morning in our Well House.

St. James is very much a part of the Porto community. In addition to church functions, our facilities are used by various groups throughout the week. Visiting choirs practice here and frequently perform at the church. It is gratifying to see our facilities well used!
