In 2025, the Oceano Azul Foundation, with the support of the European Commission, as part of the #EUBeachCleanUp campaign, is calling on national organizations to participate, encouraging civil society to actively engage in coastal cleanup initiatives.
This action is also part of the European Blue Flag campaign, promoted by ABAAE (European Blue Flag Association), reinforcing the commitment to protecting the oceans and coastal areas.
The initiative aims to "promote the preservation and protection of this unique marine ecosystem, as well as raise public awareness of the importance of marine protected areas."
The event is supported by the ICNF (Institute for Nature and Forest Conservation), CCMAR (Algarve Marine Science Center), the Oceano Azul Foundation, AMN (National Maritime Authority), ISN (Shipwrecked Rescue Institute), and PortiSub – Portimão Underwater Club, which will be present to facilitate the activity and share their experience and knowledge of marine conservation with participants.
In a statement, the Lagoa council emphasises that this "is a unique opportunity for all those interested in actively contributing to the protection of the marine environment, learning about coastal ecosystems, and participating in volunteer work that has a direct impact on ocean conservation."
