Sines: The Epicenter of Artificial Intelligence

Portugal is reaffirming itself as a European technology hub with Microsoft and Start Campus, both members of AmCham Portugal. Present in the country for 35 years, Microsoft now advances through a strategic partnership with NScale to create the country’s largest AI supercomputer, equipped with more than 12,500 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs, cutting-edge American technology. Microsoft is also committed to training 6 million Portuguese citizens in AI, ensuring that technology and inclusion go hand in hand.

Thanks to this partnership, Start Campus’ flagship building, SIN01, is operating at full capacity, with work on the second building, SIN02, set to kick off next year, signaling rapid expansion of Portugal’s AI infrastructure

Over 12,000 Blackwell Ultra GB300 chips are set to arrive in 2026, reinforcing Sines as a European tech hub. Companies like Oracle, Amazon Web Services, and Google already rely on this type of infrastructure, positioning Portugal on the global innovation map and is expanding with new buildings.

Portugal Eyes an AI Gigafactory

The Sines facility is strategic for Portugal’s bid to host one of the European Union’s AI gigafactories, a project that could attract €4 billion and 100,000 graphics processors, placing Portugal at the forefront of AI production in Europe.

Economic Impact: Impressive Numbers
