Matosinhos has been named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, joining 58 new cities recognised this year for their contribution to the promotion of culture and creative industries.

After the application involving more than 400 restaurants and sector partners was submitted, the municipality earned the distinction for its Action Plan, oriented towards sustainability, valuing gastronomic heritage and global cooperation.
The list also features the Angolan city of Lubango, in the category of Crafts and Folk Arts, and the Brazilian city of São Paulo, in the category of Cinema.
