The €2.6 million refurbishment of the Santa Luzia Hospital maternity ward in Viana do Castelo will see its first phase, including the new delivery room area, completed by December.

Funded by the Financial Incentive Programme for the Qualification of Maternity Wards in the National Health Service (SNS) and supported by the city council, the intervention will be carried out in two phases to avoid disrupting services.
This has long been demanded by the Alto Minho Local Health Unit, as the maternity hospital performs an average of 1,500 deliveries a year.
