The initiative is a way to “celebrate the pride, tradition and unique flavour of the Aljezur sweet potato – Lira variety –”, considered a “symbol of the identity of our municipality”, highlighted the Faro district council in a statement.

There will be three days of activities at the Aljezur Multipurpose Space, where visitors will have access to festive and convivial moments, contact with local culture, can watch music and entertainment shows and taste gastronomic recipes featuring sweet potatoes, the municipality added.

“More than a gastronomic event, the Aljezur Sweet Potato Festival is a celebration of the identity and know-how that has distinguished this region of the Algarve for generations, and the flagship product of the municipality,” said the Algarve council.
