“We contacted the Polícia Judiciária, the authority responsible for the investigation, which will carry out inquiries on site today to determine the causes of the fire,” said the Captain of the Port of Lagos and Local Commander of the Maritime Police, Hugo da Guia.
According to the Algarve Regional Command of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the alert was given at 9:59 pm on Sunday: “the fire did not cause personal injuries, only material damage.”
According to the Local Commander of the Lagos Maritime Police, the fire started a few hours after the restaurant had closed, and nobody was inside. Hugo da Guia said that the Maritime Police cordoned off the area on Sunday night "so that the Judicial Police could do their work, with the information collected by the National Maritime Authority having been sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office."
The operations involved 29 personnel from various entities that make up Civil Protection.
