The event will take place between Friday and January 4, 2026, transforming the town in the Leiria district “into a magical and immersive universe, where visitors are invited to take on the role of elf apprentices, actively participating in the construction and preparation of Christmas,” according to the local council.
In the medieval village, the public will find themed spaces that “bring the Christmas imagination to life with various activities typical of a factory,” among which the city hall highlights “the Toy Factory, where each visitor is invited to create their own toy, contributing to the final production that fuels the magic of Christmas, or the Sweets Workshop, where Santa's traditional cookies take shape with the help of elf apprentices.”
The event also includes visits to the Snow Powder Laboratory, where visitors discover how the snow that decorates Christmas during this season is produced, or the Elf Academy, where each participant has the opportunity to “discover a special gift and live an immersive and engaging experience in an escape room,” according to a statement about the initiative.
Attractions
Traditional attractions such as the ice rink or ramp, Train Station, Post Office, Toy Soldier Training Camp, Parisian Carousel, and Santa's Office will also be present.
The program includes various shows taking place throughout the day on the Festival Stage and in the Magic Theater, in addition to the many characters and itinerant entertainment scattered throughout the venue.
Considering Óbidos' strategic relationship with the gaming area [since the Óbidos Vila Gaming event began being held there in 2023], Vila Natal this year features a 'Tech' Workshop, where visitors can try out 17 video games on PC, consoles, and simulators.
This year's edition also includes strategic partnerships in various areas, among which the city hall highlights the alliance with the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR).
The ANSR "has joined forces with Óbidos Vila Natal to reinforce awareness of road safety during the festive season, a period marked by a significant increase in travel," informed the city hall, adding that the event will include "awareness campaigns throughout the venue and special actions with visitors."
New features
Among the main new features this year, the organization also highlights the extended opening hours on weekends and the implementation of a session-based entry system, "a model that facilitates audience management, reduces waiting times and makes the visit more comfortable and fluid," reads the statement in which the Óbidos City Council advises purchasing tickets online (at bol.pt) to avoid inconveniences on the day of the visit.
Óbidos Vila Natal will be open to the public from Monday to Thursday from 11:00 to 20:00, from Friday to Sunday from 10:00 to 21:00, and on December 24th and 31st from 11:00 to 18:00.
The event will be closed on December 25th and January 1st.
