In a press conference to provide an update on Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa's health, Maria João Baptista said that the head of state "ate well and will have to undergo some tests" and should leave the hospital "within a few hours."
"The President of the Republic is in good spirits and is doing well. We have the clinical conditions we wanted, what was expected in the post-operative period, and what we are going to do at this moment is wait a little longer for the President to eat, and if conditions allow, he will be discharged within a few hours," said Maria João Baptista.
The Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Fernando Frutuoso de Melo, confirmed that the visits to the Vatican and Spain have been cancelled, and the Spanish visit has been rescheduled for February, and that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will travel to Belém by car.
“Yes, he will go to Belém. By car, exactly (...). He has a permanent medical support office in Belém, so he will be accompanied by the medical team and the nursing team,” he said.
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was admitted to São João Hospital in Porto on Monday night after feeling unwell following a digestive problem, the Presidency of the Republic indicated.
