The region also consolidated its position as the second largest in the country in terms of revenue volume, behind only Greater Lisbon, growing 9.3% year-on-year.
Tourist accommodation in the Algarve showed a generally positive performance in October, marked by a strong increase in domestic demand and the region maintaining its position as the national leader in overnight stays, reported the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The destination recorded more than two million overnight stays, equivalent to 26.7% of the national total, continuing to be the most sought-after tourist region in the country in this indicator.
The domestic market stood out significantly, with an 11.6% increase in overnight stays by residents. Non-residents, who accounted for 86% of overnight stays in the region in October, continue to highlight the Algarve's strong international dimension as a tourist destination.
According to the INE (National Institute of Statistics), the number of guests in tourist accommodation establishments in the Algarve grew by 1.9%, to 526,000, with positive contributions from both residents (+2.5%) and non-residents (+1.7%). The average length of stay was 3.94 nights, the second highest in the country and clearly above the national average (2.51 nights), reinforcing the Algarve's competitiveness as a destination for extended stays, while the room occupancy rate remained at 63.9%, maintaining consistent levels for the month of October, according to a report by Publituris.
The president of Algarve Tourism, André Gomes, commented on these results, highlighting that they "demonstrate the enormous resilience and attractiveness" of the destination, adding that "the strong growth in domestic demand, the maintenance of national leadership in overnight stays, and the very positive evolution of earnings show that we are facing a solid, competitive, and increasingly valued destination." In this sense, "these indicators reinforce our confidence that 2025 will be a very positive year for the Algarve, with a vibrant, diversified tourism sector prepared to continue growing sustainably".
