In a statement, the public company Museus e Monumentos de Portugal (MMP) announced that “due to the public holiday granted to MMP employees on December 24th and 31st, its museums, monuments, and palaces will be closed to the public on those dates.”

The company also notes the closures on the holidays of December 25th and January 1st, emphasising that those with tickets for the 24th and 31st can exchange them or request a refund.

The public institute for Cultural Heritage, in a statement, points out that due to the public holiday granted by the Government, “all services of Cultural Heritage, I.P. will be closed, including sites and monuments”.

The MMP manages spaces such as the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belém Tower in Lisbon, Guimarães Castle, the monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha, and the National Museums of Ancient Art, Soares dos Reis, and Music, among the 38 under its tutelage.

The Cultural Heritage Institute manages about two dozen facilities and sites, such as the Escoural cave in Montemor-o-Novo, and monasteries such as those of Arouca, Grijó, and Santa Clara a Velha.
