In a press conference about the 2025-2026 New Year's Eve celebration, which takes place in the so-called Praça do Comércio, the Councillor for Security and Civil Protection, Rodrigo Mello Gonçalves (IL), said that "there were talks" between the city hall and the Lisbon Metro about reinforcing the transport service, but it was decided that the metro will operate until 1:00 AM on January 1st (Thursday), with reinforced service on the Blue line, with two trains.

Regarding the increased transport service provided by Carris, Rodrigo Mello Gonçalves stated that night bus routes "will be fully operational during New Year's Eve, subject to traffic restrictions in the city's downtown area."

The affected routes are 201 Cais do Sodré – Linda-A-Velha, 202 Cais do Sodré – Bairro Padre Cruz, 203 Restelo – Xabregas, 206 Cais do Sodré – Odivelas, 207 Cais do Sodré – Fetais, 208 Cais do Sodré – Estação do Oriente, and 210 Cais do Sodré – Prior Velho.

“There will also be extra buses at Cais do Sodré, Rossio and Santa Apolónia station to meet peak demand in any of these locations,” he said.

The Transtejo/Soflusa company will also increase service, with “a wide range of extra departures on all river connections”.

Regarding city mobility, starting at 4 PM on Wednesday, there will be traffic restrictions in Terreiro do Paço and surrounding areas, such as Baixa Pombalina, Rossio, Cais do Sodré, and Campo das Cebolas, due to the New Year's Eve celebration.

As for public transportation, shared scooters and bicycles will be deactivated between 1 PM on Wednesday, December 31st, and 6 AM on Thursday, January 1st.

Additionally, at 5 PM, the Terreiro do Paço metro station will be closed, and at 6 PM, Terreiro do Paço will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles for security checks at the New Year's Eve party location.

The venue will open to the public at 7:30 PM, and the event will begin at 9:30 PM, with performances by DJ Mojo and MC Márcio Jesus.

At 10:30 PM there will be a concert by Plutônio, at 11:55 PM a pyromusical show with drones, at midnight fireworks over the Tagus River, at 12:15 AM the I Love Reggaeton concert, and at 1:00 AM the celebrations will end, indicated the mayor responsible for Security.

“From 1:30 AM onwards, dismantling, urban cleaning, and the phased reopening to traffic will begin,” said Rodrigo Mello Gonçalves, highlighting the contribution of the urban hygiene service, which, in coordination with the parish councils, “will ensure the rapid restoration of normality in the city, during and after the event.”

The councilor urged the population to comply with the guidelines of the security and civil protection authorities, to use public transport, and to arrive at Terreiro do Paço in advance, “preferably by 9 PM.”

The New Year's Eve party in the capital will have a "very robust" security system, with searches at all six entry points to the venue, revealed Iúri Rodrigues of the Civil Police (PSP), warning that the entry of blunt or dangerous objects, including champagne bottles, is prohibited.
