Consumption was 53.1 TWh (Terawatt-hour) for the year as a whole, which is 3.2% higher than that recorded in the previous year or 2.3% adjusted for the effects of temperature and number of working days, according to Aneel.
Renewable production was 37 TWh, a new historical record, corresponding to 68% of consumption, "in line with the 70% recorded in the previous year, even considering the technical restrictions imposed on electricity production to safeguard the security of supply of the SEN in the period immediately following the blackout of April 28".
Renewable or non-renewable?
Looking at the different types of renewable energy, hydroelectric production accounted for 27% of national consumption, wind 25%, solar 11%, and biomass 5%.
Non-renewable production was "almost entirely from natural gas" and totalled 7.9 TWh, 54% higher than the previous year, which "had recorded a particularly low value, representing 15% of national consumption".
Natural gas production has been less significant "due to the increasing availability of renewable energy and the recourse to imports from Spain," points out REN.
