Following the theme “Let’s go to the movies!”, Ferreira created a unique sculpture in homage to two of the film “Back to the Future’s” most iconic elements: the renowned DeLorean, sculpted exactly as it appears in the movie, and the popular Clock Tower, the setting for the lightning strike that enables time travel. Both works executed entirely in ice melded with wistful cinematic memory and the material’s natural fragility.

For Ferreira, ice embodies the concepts of time and impermanence. His sculptures exist fully only for a brief moment, much like human life. The heart of his artistry lies in this dynamic between collective memory and the work’s inevitable disappearance.
When Ferreira is not working on international projects, he works on commissioned individual ice sculptures for various occasions in Portugal, in partnership with cultural agencies, local authorities, and private clients. His pieces take blocks of ice and mould them into stunning site-specific experiences, from corporate events to brand activations, through weddings to public celebrations.

Previously, at the Winter Club in Canary Wharf, London, Ferreira participated in the Ice Bar by creating two large-scale interactive sculptures: a replica of the British Throne and the iconic red telephone booth, both raised to a height of 250cm. Designed purposely for visitor interaction, these works dissolved the boundary between observer and artwork.

He also travelled abroad to Europa-Park in Rust, Germany, where he recreated the historic Monza Pista racetrack in ice and transformed nostalgia into an immortal yet temporary form.
Within this project series, Rodrigo Ferreira essentially speaks of ice as a philosophical medium of memory and time, imperfection of a beauty that cannot last.
