Due to storm damage, the concert was relocated at the last minute to the Auditorium of the University of Algarve. Despite the change of venue, the event drew a full house, with almost no seat left empty.

The event was graced by the presence of several prominent guests including Dr António Pina, President da Câmara de Faro.

Making his debut performance in Portugal, Swiss baritone Äneas Humm, born in 1995, captivated the audience with his remarkable artistry. Already acclaimed across Europe, Humm has performed at prestigious venues including the Concertgebouw, Teatro La Fenice, and Opera di Roma. His appearance in Faro marked a significant cultural moment for the region.

Accompanied by virtuoso pianist Elenora Pertz, Humm opened the recital with Christoph Willibald Gluck’s celebrated aria “O del mio dolce ardor”. His deep, powerful, and mellow voice immediately enthralled the audience. The program continued with works by Franz Schubert and Edvard Grieg, showcasing both artists’ perfect synergy, authenticity, and subtlety. Their engaging stage presence, marked by humour and warmth, made classical music accessible and joyful for all.

The second part of the recital featured a solo performance by Pertz, demonstrating her technical brilliance, followed by Humm’s interpretations of 20th‑century repertoire with Joseph Marx and Richard Strauss works. The evening also included a special appearance by the São Lourenço Singers, under the direction of Joyce Whitelaw, who performed three pieces to great acclaim.

The concert concluded with two encores, greeted by a standing ovation and prolonged applause. Afterwards, guests enjoyed a convivial reception, mingling with the artists over a glass of wine in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere — a fitting end to an evening that embodied both cultural enrichment and Rotary’s spirit of solidarity. All proceeds from the evening will be allocated to the educational and social causes supported by the Club.
