Guimarães was the chosen city to be the European Green Capital for 2026, and the celebrations will start on Friday, 9 January, with an opening ceremony that begins at 9 pm, in the Multiusos de Guimarães. On stage, there will be performing Portuguese singers like Gisela João and Sofia Escobar. Local groups will also perform, such as A Outra Voz, CERCIGUI, Coro En’Canto, Grupo Coral de Ponte, and TetrAcord’Ensemble.
With more than 170 people performing, the show will affirm sustainability as a cultural, social, and humanitarian practice. Due to the high demand, the 2.800 seats available were sold out, but the show will be live on the municipality’s YouTube channel.
The celebrations will continue on Saturday, 10 January, beginning at 10:30 am, with 26 free activities spread through different places in the city. There will be the opportunity to see show cooking, more music and even literature.
The festivities end with the Silent Party in the Mercado Municipal, and it begins by 10 pm, finishing by 1 am.
In 2026, Guimarães promises to offer activities as the European Green Capital 2026.
