According to Postal, Portimão reaffirms its commitment to supporting families in the municipality who have greater difficulties in accessing housing.

Quoted by Postal, the Portimão City Council states that “Portimão Local Authority remains strongly committed to supporting families in the municipality who have greater difficulties in accessing housing, through the rental support subsidy”.

The municipality, quoted by the same media outlet, states that “by the beginning of 2026, this measure will already cover 545 households”, representing “a total annual investment of around €1.9 million, fully supported by the municipality”. This support translates into “a significant average monthly contribution for each beneficiary family, between €275 and €350”.

New applications

The local authority clarified that the subsidy is granted “upon monthly proof of rent payment. The measure is being taken “in a context of strong pressure on the property market, especially in the Algarve”, so the support is intended to be “a structural social response, essential to prevent situations of vulnerability and housing exclusion”.

The municipality of Portimão also informs that “the rental support programme is open to new applications” and covers “all families who, meeting the legally defined criteria, need support to meet their housing costs”.
