The trial was scheduled to begin in December last year, but Pedro Frazão invoked parliamentary immunity, and the session was postponed until today.

On 7 January, the Committee on Transparency and Statutes of Deputies decided to authorise the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of the Chega party deputy.

According to the accusation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, to which Lusa had access, Deputy Pedro Frazão published, in 2021, on the social network ‘X’ a video of “a young militant/sympathizer of Bloco de Esquerda, in which she states, in summary, that she was a victim of non-consensual sexual acts by an individual linked to the aforementioned Party”.

Accompanying the video, Deputy Pedro Frazão wrote: “Is there no more Purity in the BE of Disgust? #MeToo". He also asked in a comment, "Who could be the disgusting 62-year-old?"

In the year of publication, José Manuel Pureza served as vice president of the Assembly of the Republic and was a deputy elected by Bloco de Esquerda.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Pedro Frazão “was perfectly aware" that José Manuel Pureza "belonged to the organs of Bloco de Esquerda, that he had been elected deputy for that party and that he was 62 years old”.
