According to data provided to Lusa by the Brazilian Agency for International Tourism Promotion (Embratur), after the French, who had 293,000 citizens visiting Brazil, the Portuguese are the European citizens who visited Brazil the most, as of last year.

Brazil welcomed 9.3 million foreigners in 2025, a record number, 37.1% higher than in 2024. The country also surpassed the 6.9 million visitors expected for 2025.

“We’ve exceeded all expectations and made 2025 the biggest year in the history of international tourism in Brazil. We took to the world the mark of our authenticity, our diversity, the Brazilian ‘soft power’ that has so enchanted the planet,” said the president of Embratur, Marcelo Freixo, in a statement.

The positive result was reinforced by December numbers, at the start of the Southern Hemisphere summer and Brazil’s main tourist season, when the country received 896,488 foreign tourists, 11% higher than in the same month in 2024.
