The information was revealed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz.
The Minister, who spoke during a presentation by TAP, which will build a maintenance hub at this airport, said that the Government intends to create a "working group, precisely to assess and understand how the expansion of Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport can" have positive implications for the entire region.
"We don't want to do what happened in Lisbon. If we don't begin designing this expansion with you now, we will certainly create structural injustices, inequities, and an inability to align the territory with growth. And today we have that problem in Lisbon," he stressed.
"We have the problem of noise, we have the problem of those who no longer want traffic at Humberto Delgado Airport, we have the traffic that arrives at the airport," the Minister recalled, indicating that it is necessary to "design in a symbiotic way what is an infrastructure that serves this entire region."
Porto Airport has been registering significant increases in traffic.
