In a statement, the IPMA reported that the earthquake occurred at 11:21 pm on Wednesday and that the epicentre was located approximately 6 km west of Paços de Ferreira.

"This earthquake, according to the information available so far, caused no personal or material damage and was felt with a maximum intensity of III (modified Mercalli scale) in the municipalities of Vila Nova de Famalicão (Braga), Gondomar, Maia, Paredes, Santo Tirso, Valongo and Trofa (Porto)," it said.
