Portugal registered a slightly below-average increase compared to the European average, at 1.7%.
In 2025, according to the EU statistical service, growth in tourist nights was mainly driven by an increase in nights spent by international guests (46.1 million), while nights spent by domestic guests grew more slowly (15.4 million).
Overall, tourist nights in the EU were fairly balanced between international (49%) and domestic (51%) guests.
In terms of accommodation type, hotels and similar accommodations recorded 1.9 billion nights (63% of the total), followed by holiday homes and other short-term accommodation, with 743 million (24%), and campsites, with 413 million (13%).
Compared to 2024, in 2025 the number of nights spent in tourist accommodations increased in almost all EU countries.
Among the Member States, the largest increases were recorded in Malta (10%), Poland (7%) and Latvia (6%), with slight decreases observed in Romania (-1%) and Ireland (-2%).
