According to a press release by Krono Homes, “International Living has also ranked Portugal within the top five destinations in its Annual Global Retirement Index.” The study highlighted “fresh, affordable food, universal healthcare, compact footprint, and kind neighbours”, which make Portugal appealing for retirement.
The study also highlighted the weather conditions, stating that “abundant sunshine, a wealth of diverse natural landscapes and rich culture and history also contribute to the exceptional quality of life that Portugal offers those in their golden years.”
Krono Homes states that “many retirees are drawn to Portugal’s sunniest region – the Algarve.” The outdoor lifestyle, the easy-going culture “centred around eating out and spending time at the beach, on the golf course or hiking along the clifftops, is ideal for retirees looking for an affordable lifestyle that’s both active and relaxed.”
The properties made available in the region, according to Krono Homes, can fit “a wide range of retirees’ budgets”; the company also “highlights this as part of the region’s appeal.”
Alda Filipe, Regional Director and Partner at Kronos Homes, comments: “Safe, welcoming, and home to properties that deliver outstanding value for money, Portugal is ready to delight and surprise those seeking an active, sociable retirement with plenty of time outdoors. With over 300 days of sunshine per year, plus fascinating historic and cultural attractions to discover, the Algarve is one of the country’s most compelling destinations for enjoying later life.”

The kind neighbours is not the reality, as most neighbours don't care, if you are in an apartment block, all kind of rubbish will be thrown out the window, with no concern of people living below. It is really sad for such a beautiful country.

Portugal is wonderful to live in. Lived here for almost 8 years now. The portugese is also lovely people. But…always a but unfortunately..the healthcare is in total shambles so you MUST have a private insurance. The public NHS just doesn’t work for to mainly political incompetence. It’s sad but better to be honest.
