After two days with hundreds of incidents caused by Storm Kristin, no "significant occurrences" were recorded this morning, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), in statements to the Lusa news agency at 06.30am.
On its Facebook page, CP (Portuguese Railways) indicates that due to Storm Kristin passing through mainland Portugal, traffic on the Douro line, between Régua and Pocinho, the Beira Baixa line, between Ródão and Castelo Novo, and the Western line remains suspended.
According to CP (Portuguese Railways), the Coimbra Urban trains between Coimbra B and Alfarelos, the Regional Service between Coimbra B and Entroncamento, and the Northern Line between Porto and Lisbon for long-distance trains are also suspended.
In a statement, CP (Portuguese Railways) reports that rail traffic resumed on Thursday night on the Beira Baixa Line, but only for regional services on the Covilhã-Guarda section.
The passage of Storm Kristin through mainland Portugal on Wednesday left a trail of destruction, causing at least five deaths, according to Civil Protection, several injuries, and displaced persons. The Marinha Grande City Council also reports another fatality in the municipality.
Fallen trees and structures, road closures or disruptions to transport services, especially railway lines, school closures, and power, water, and communication outages were the main material consequences of the storm.
In Leiria, where the storm entered the territory, Coimbra and Santarém are the districts that recorded the most damage.
The Government declared a state of emergency from 12am on Wednesday until 11.59pm on 1 February across approximately 60 municipalities, with the number expected to increase.
