According to preliminary data on tourism activity released today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), 2025 saw an acceleration in the growth of overnight stays by residents (+5.4%; +2.2% in 2024) and a slowdown in those by non-residents (+0.8%; +4.9% in 2024).

Even so, overnight stays by non-residents predominated (69.4% of the total), reaching 57.0 million, while those by residents (30.6% of the total) totalled 25.1 million.

Compared with 2024, the INE (National Institute of Statistics) reports a decrease in dependence on external markets (from 70.3% in 2024).

It emphasises that "since 2015, only in the period between 2020 and 2022, strongly marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, were levels of dependence on external markets lower than those recorded in 2025".
