According to the mayor of Foz Côa, Pedro Duarte, this closure was made for road safety reasons, as there are several rock and earth landslides on the stretch between the town centre and the parish of Almendra.

“We expect the road clearing work to be quick, but there are no guarantees that there will not be more landslides, due to the rain and the forecast of adverse weather conditions for the coming days,” he said.

According to the mayor, EN222 was closed early this morning, and there are currently no alternative routes.
