The INE also noted that the number of family home transactions in Portugal rose by 4.0% compared with the third quarter of 2024, according to its Housing Price Statistics at the Local Level.
The median price of housing increased compared to the same period in 2024 across the 26 NUTS III sub-regions (Intermunicipal Entities, such as the Intermunicipal Communities and the Metropolitan Areas of Lisbon and Porto), with Trás-os-Montes recording the largest growth (34.3%).
Five of the six sub-regions with the highest median housing prices – Greater Lisbon, Algarve, Setúbal Peninsula, Autonomous Region of Madeira, and Metropolitan Area of Porto – also presented the highest values in both categories of the buyer’s tax domicile (domestic and foreign territory).
In Greater Lisbon and the Metropolitan Area of Porto, the median price of transactions carried out by buyers with tax domicile abroad exceeded, respectively, by 61.7% and 39.8%, the price of transactions by buyers with tax domicile in national territory.
