Tróia Design Hotel joins community beach cleanup

The renewal reflects the hotel’s ongoing commitment to environmental protection and local community support.

On 17 January, the hotel also joined Wild Tróia, a community-driven coastal cleanup initiative on the Tróia Peninsula.

Wild Tróia Mobilises Local Community for Coastal Cleanup

The event took place at the beaches of Bico das Lulas and Costa Galé, with 95 volunteers who collected 1.14 tonnes of waste. The initiative was launched by Inês Maçarico as part of the Raiz Azul Project and has been supported from the start by several local partners.

As a partner in the initiative, the Tróia Design Hotel provided logistical support and meals for participants, offering 70 kits containing water, juice, sandwiches, pastries, cookies, energy bars, and fruit, with contributions from suppliers Sogenave and Aviludo.

The renewed Biosphere certification recognises the hotel’s efforts to reduce plastic use, adopt responsible consumption practices, promote sustainable mobility, use eco-friendly cleaning products, and actively engage with the community and local partners—all while operating within a Natural Reserve.

Victor Cópio, General Manager of Tróia Design Hotel, states: "Renewing the Biosphere certification reflects consistent and ongoing work in sustainability. Supporting community-led initiatives that help preserve the territory we are part of is a natural extension of this commitment."

Wild Tróia also received support from numerous local partners, including Rotas do Sal, Setúbal Alive, Longitude (boats), Infratróia (cleaning equipment and transport), Brigada do Mar (land support), Atlantic Ferries (ticket donations), Meu Super (food support), and Marina de Tróia (dock space).

Located within a Natural Reserve, the Tróia Design Hotel reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, environmental protection, and responsible local development—both through its Biosphere certification and by supporting community mobilisation efforts such as Wild Tróia.
