José Carlos Rolo had left the presidency of the Algarve council after the last local elections, in which he failed to be re-elected and was replaced by Rui Cristina, from Chega, the party that received the most votes in last October’s local elections.

In a note published on social media, the president of the PSD in the Algarve, Cristóvão Norte, mourned the death of José Carlos Rolo, expressed his condolences to his family and friends, and highlighted the “example of commitment and sense of public service” of the former mayor of Albufeira.

“José Carlos Rolo made others his mission. He gave many years of total dedication,” said Cristóvão Norte in a post on social media, stating that “the PSD in the Algarve is in mourning”.

The president of the PSD’s Algarve district political committee recalled José Carlos Rolo’s career, first as a teacher and then as a local councillor, roles in which he “always maintained the same character”, demonstrating “discreet commitment, unwavering loyalty and devoted integrity”.

“I never saw any ill feelings or base motives in him, but rather a desire to bring people together, to unite, not to cause tension or division, giving the best of himself to serve his land and his community,” added Cristóvão Norte, who thanked the former mayor of Albufeira for his “civic work” throughout his life.
