I Love You, Youre Perfect, Now Change is a crowd-pleasing comedy depicting the perils and pitfalls of dating, marriage, parenthood and the twilight years of life.

We asked Paul Legault why he chose this particular show as his directorial debut with The Algarveans.

“I first performed this show in 2009 in my native Canada,” he replied, “and was immediately drawn to its delightful music by Jimmy Roberts and insightful dialogue and lyrics by Joe DiPietro portraying the joys and jeopardies of relationships.

“I knew it would be an engaging project for The Algarveans as it provides the group with an opportunity to stage something new: a show with more intimate and personal subject matter, presented with humour and charm, and the musical support of live musicians on stage.

“While I have accompanied, directed, conducted, and performed in many large, standard-format shows, I prefer more intimate productions that allow a closer connection with the audience.

“The form of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change develops its theme through a series of sketches, rather than a full narrative, with many relatable characters we can identify, laugh and cry with. When we leave the theatre, we feel as if we've spent the evening with friends and neighbours.”
