The announcement was made on 15 February, at a ceremony held at the Radisson Collection Hotel, Berlin, on the sidelines of the European Film Market (EFM).

Figueira da Foz's application was submitted by the Portugal Film Commission.

“The municipality has unique characteristics and diversity. Its luminosity is also a positive factor,” stressed Bruno Manique, former coordinator of the Figueira Film Office, a structure created by the municipality, in recent statements to Diário As Beiras.
